Bon Voyage Mon Ami.
Last evening I dreamt we were looking for a flat in NYC. The cityscape teemed upon us like our favorite Bladerunner films, and you looked more serious than usual in that suit. I was told early this morning you passed in peace without pain after such a long and lengthy fight for your life, for your loves, for your family and friends. Out of the many memories I’m lucky to have had with you, one stands out as the most branding. It was a cold day in Boston in 2002 and I had just returned from Paris after meeting the love of my life. I relayed to you all the details and information of my Parisian adventures and found myself penniless back in Boston searching for a way to follow my love to Brazil. You smiled and said well you know, I’ve been wanting that painting of yours for a long time. I sat next to you as you smiled as your finger slowly descended onto the computer keyboard “Are you reaaaady to goooo to Braaaazzziiiil?” Before you know it 20 years I’m married with a son, and you, with two lovely baby daughters with the love of your life. I’ve missed many moments to see you mostly because of distance. However the moments we were able to gather in these few years were worth its weight in gold. I’m not gonna keep going because I know you know , you know, so I’ll just leave with that poem I wrote you when I left town that grey day long ago.
White rooms
Cold days
nothing but the beats and the dollars making way to another glitzy night or a rainy day
remember the pool we walked around and found you a lover
tiger lily and take out
did they mess you up in the fancy loft.
hours dissolving fixed on the screen
striving for the unseen in uncertain places
nothing but the beats
nothing but the dollars
miss the way it felt right at certain times
first times, first times, first times
convenience is a cage
nights passing to the sound of our cat´s guitar
drama drama drama
nothing but her eyes, now her ghosts, walking along thesestreets of brick
remember the glory that came briefly every now and then
that would test the characters we´ve become within this doll´shouse.
we are all graduates here.
nothing but the beats
nothing but the dollars
so remember the spirit, remember the love, remember the laundry that needs to be done
for wherever you choose to have landed
you will always be Boston branded.
So happy we got to see each other before your voyage to the infinite. Goodbye my beautiful friend. I love you Joseph Donyo. Godspeed 🖤🙌🖤
