Taking Time

People often ask me how long does it take to paint a painting. The answer is hundreds of hours. I usually start more than several pieces at the same time, and some I continue working on for years after its initial conception. This particular technique inspired by the sound of multiple birds taking off at the same time was created as a visual onomatopoeia. I enjoy using many contemporary mediums such as metallics and iridescent acrylic paints to create otherworldly and ethereal moods. I incorporate brush, syringe, tubes, henna pens, and cake icing tips to achieve various painstaking details. I based my practice off of Tibetan sand paintings and the hours long meditations in which they create various mandalas and destroy them after completion. I will leave the universe to decide the impermanence of these paintings and feel grateful to leave behind these artifacts on my time given.
